A Little Walk Down History
Maison d’Ail was built in 2011 by Clive and Jeanne Garlick. Clive, born on the famous Glenelly Estate in Stellenbosch, became a farmer in the Franschhoek valley after marrying Jeanne in 1985. Together, they spent many years farming apples at their farm, Beaucoup de Leau/Mooiwater, before moving into the village and purchasing vacant properties to develop into beautiful homes, while their three daughters, Jessica, Amy, and Louise attended the local private school, Bridge House.
Maison d’Ail was their final project, and after Clive’s passing in 2023, his three daughters took over the property. They are dedicated to maintaining the standards set by their parents, offering a friendly, welcoming environment for all guests.
To ensure a seamless experience, the Garlick sisters have appointed an experienced guesthouse manager, Corna Siebrits, who oversees daily operations. In honour of their father’s legacy, the sisters hope that you will enjoy your stay at Maison d’Ail—a true home away from home.
The name "Maison d'Ail" means "House of Garlic" in French, a playful nod to the Garlick family name. The name was chosen by our parents, Clive and Jeanne, to honour the French Huguenot settlers who originally founded Franschhoek

Jessica – Co-owner
Hi, I’m Jessica. The eldest of the three sisters behind Maison d’Ail. I studied a Bsc Food Science and completed a MSc Wine Biotechnology at Stellenbosch University. I currently run an online spiritual healing, transformation and coaching business facilitating body-led/somatic healing. At Maison d’Ail I focus on guest relations, marketing and social media and support my sisters in making key decisions to ensure smooth daily operations of our guesthouse and giving our guests a truly great experience.
Amy – Co-owner
Hi, I’m Amy, the middle daughter of the three sisters behind Maison d'Ail. I studied Chemical Engineering at Stellenbosch and have spent the last 10 years working in consulting and finance in Johannesburg. Alongside my corporate career, I run Waggle Craft Honey, a side venture combining my love for sustainable, locally sourced products with entrepreneurship. At Maison d'Ail, I focus on business operations—managing finances and overseeing the guesthouse’s smooth day-to-day functioning.
Louise – Co-owner
Hi, I’m Louise, the youngest of the three sisters. After living in the Falkland Islands and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, my family is now happily settled in an Eco Village outside Stellenbosch. I hold a degree in Civil Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Development. I am passionate about empowering people and creating community, so alongside being a mom, I run workshops and meet-ups for women in the pregnancy-postpartum phase of life. At Maison d’Ail, I oversee the maintenance and housekeeping - ensuring the guesthouse is in good order for our guests.
