A Little Walk Down History

Maison d’Ail was built in 2011 by Clive and Jeanne Garlick. Clive, born on the famous Glenelly Estate in Stellenbosch, became a farmer in the Franschhoek valley after marrying Jeanne in 1985. Together, they spent many years farming apples at their farm, Beaucoup de Leau/Mooiwater, before moving into the village and purchasing vacant properties to develop into beautiful homes, while their three daughters, Jessica, Amy, and Louise attended the local private school, Bridge House.

Maison d’Ail was their final project, and after Clive’s passing in 2023, his three daughters took over the property. They are dedicated to maintaining the standards set by their parents, offering a friendly, welcoming environment for all guests.

To ensure a seamless experience, the Garlick sisters have appointed an experienced guesthouse manager, Corna Siebrits, who oversees daily operations. In honour of their father’s legacy, the sisters hope that you will enjoy your stay at Maison d’Ail—a true home away from home.

The Name Maison d’Ail

The name "Maison d'Ail" means "House of Garlic" in French, a playful nod to the Garlick family name. The name was chosen by our parents, Clive and Jeanne, to honour the French Huguenot settlers who originally founded Franschhoek
